International Peace Day

About a month ago, I registered with Peace One Day, an organization founded by Jeremy Gilley. In 1999, he began
his tireless efforts to establish a set date for recognition of a global cease fire and celebration of peace. Jeremy’s
dedication paid off in 2001 when the United Nations unanimously adopted a resolution that marked
September 21 as the official International Day of Peace.

On Tuesday, September 21, 2010, events celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace were held
world wide. Peace One Day held a concert in Paris hosted by Jude Law and Sharon Stone that was available
through a webcast.

Here in Boston, I wanted to find a celebration where I could observe the day.
World Peace Prayer Society, held a ceremony of Peace at the Parkman Grandstand on Boston Common. The event was organized by Penny Joy Snider-Light, the organization's New England representative. I felt an enormous warmth of spirit and caring. Contributors to the ceremony included Gandiva Lorcan and Kellan Hays of Roots & Shoots
.
