As this film evolved, I found myself rooting for Jeremy Gilley to succeed in his mission of creating a designated global day of peace. His perseverance is astounding as he attempts to recruit advocates such as the Dalai Lama and convince members of the United Nations to sponsor a resolution. The resolution is the critical component needed for the United Nations General Assembly to officially adopt Jeremy's proposal.
Beyond Belief(2006)
Reeling from the mind-numbing loss of their husbands on 9/11, two widows were touched by the enormous support they received. As they began to peel away the grief, Susan Retik and Patti Quigley began to learn about the country identified as the source of the terrorists. They found themselves developing an intrinsic connection to the plight of the Afghanistan women, who have suffered unimaginable loss and terror for decades. Instead of condemning an entire nation Susan Retik and Patti Quigley opened their hearts.
Their journey to bridge the gap of support so desperately needed by the widows of Afghanistan really took root through the non-profit organization they created called Beyond the 11th. In 2006 Susan and Patti traveled to Afghanistan to meet the women they had made a connection with and see how much of an impact Beyond the 11th was actually making. Susan Retik was recently honored with the President's Citizen Medal of Honor.
